Post 3: Book 1 Project

Book 1 Project: Fan Experience

For my book choice, I decided to read Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. My idea is to make the book more of a journey and fun experience for the reader. Instead of just being a book, I am adding a bonus pack to the book which includes the book along with actual cassette tapes to listen to her story instead of having to read it.

I think people will enjoy this because the tapes were the most interesting part of the book, and if you listen to the actual person who is saying those things, you can capture their emotion better by listening to their voice. This would also be appealing to people who are lazy and would prefer to just listen to these parts of the book instead of just reading it! But going back to what I was saying, this would be very interesting because you could capture Hannah's emotions and feelings much better than you would by just reading them. One example that I would've preferred to hear Hannah say rather to read is, "I hope you're ready, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you're listening to these tapes, you're one of the reasons why." This would have been so cool to hear from her actual voice. It would really pull the listener in to keep  listening because the emotion behind that would be so raw and it is so interesting that you would want to keep listening. One other quote I would have liked to hear instead of read was, "Hannah Baker is not, and never was, a slut. Which begs the question. What have you heard?" This would have been very interesting to hear as well because it would be interesting to capture the mixture of sadness and anger in her voice. One final quote that I would have liked to hear instead of read was, "You can't stop the future, you can't rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret...is to press play." This would have interesting to hear because I would like to hear the voice of anger and knowledge rather than read it.

I think that this idea would help the book tremendously. It would bring together people who have already read the book to get a better understanding of it, and it would also help people who don't find interest in reading, and would prefer to just listen to the book instead. Going back to what I said about people who have already read the book, it would bring them back to take a second listen to fully understand Hannah's feelings and thoughts about all of the people who ruined her life.

I think that this people will buy this product, because nothing like this is really on the market. Cassettes are considered to be old fashioned which I feel would possibly bring in older people and teenager who are looking to be different.

This will cost a total price of $14.99, which is 5 dollars more than just the book by itself, but it would be extremely worth it to a dedicated reader who wants to fully understand a book. It comes with 7 cassette tapes and a mini cassette tape player.

Post 2: What is a book?

A book is an escape. A book is a way for a person to escape the world and to put themselves in the shoes of other people. I think that both e-books and regular books can both be considered books because they both have a story to tell, so I would consider them to be books. I personally hate reading books though when they aren't on a mobile device though, for many reasons. One reason is that, if I ever get bored and I'm out in public, I could easily take out my phone and start reading if I felt the need to, but if I'm ever out in public and I really wanted to read for some reason, I couldn't with a normal book because no regular person just casually brings a book with them wherever they go. So that is very handy for me. But, for a counter claim, regular books are just as good and plus, they don't have a battery so they couldn't die out of nowhere. Whenever I am reading a book that isn't on a mobile device, I feel as if I get bored very easily. For example, in class right now, I am reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and whenever I read it from the book, I find myself reading it, but not being able to understand what I am exactly reading. But whenever it comes to reading off of a mobile device, I find myself understanding and enjoying this story better and actually finding myself somewhat enjoying this book. One thing that I really enjoy about having a kindle when I read, is that if I don't understand what something means, I can just highlight that word and it will give me a definition of that word, which I find to be very handy. I lean more towards the side of getting rid of books/bookstores because I enjoy e-books more, and if I had to guess, most of the highschoolers at this school do too.
